2-1-1 Tulare County

What is 2-1-1?
2-1-1 Links People to Important Community Information
On July 21, 2000 the Federal Communications Commission designated 2-1-1 – the three-digit dialing code –to provide public access to information about and referral to health and human services, including opportunities to volunteer time or make donations.
The last available three-digit dialing code, 2-1-1 has the potential to stand beside 9-1-1 and 4-1-1 as an easy-to-remember access point for quick, responsive, universally available assistance to the public.
2-1-1 achieves its greatest potential when it brings together the existing comprehensive information and referral (I&R) services in communities, and expands those services into previously unserved areas.
For Example 2-1-1 connects people with resources that:
-
Ensure children have access to proper housing, nutrition and health care so they can succeed in school;
-
Support families leaving welfare so they can remain self-sufficient and productive;
-
Aid senior citizens to find and pay for prescription drugs so that they maintain active lives;
-
Direct single mothers to affordable child care centers close to home, so that the mothers can keep their jobs;
-
Connect victims of domestic violence with groups that provide shelter so they can leave their violent situations
-
Help individuals find resources to cope with the financial strain of layoffs so that they can remain in their own homes
-
Connect volunteers with meaningful projects in their communities.
